Rethinking Africa Forum at the South African Embassy in Berlin
We’re thrilled to share highlights from the recent Africa Forum, a collaborative event co-hosted by ReThinking Africa and the South African Embassy in Berlin. The day brought together sharp minds from across Africa and Europe for what proved to be a powerful exchange of perspectives and ideas.
Africa Roundtable: Exploring Geopolitical Opportunity
At the centre of the forum was the Africa Roundtable, themed „Africa and Europe’s Geopolitical Opportunity.“ The session featured distinguished voices from the African continent and the international business community, sparking thoughtful discussion on the evolving relationship between the two regions.
The discussion was moderated by Theodore Murphy, former Africa Director and policy fellow by RUSI featuring Andries Oosthuizen, Head of Mission at the South African Embassy in Berlin and Eskindir Yirga Asfaw, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, as speakers.
Books, Networking and Continued Conversation
The afternoon programme included presentations of books authored by Prof. Stefan Liebing and Ralf E. Krüger, offering fresh perspectives on Africa’s economic landscape and future trajectory.
A vibrant networking session followed, with conversations carrying well beyond the formal programme as participants connected and explored new avenues for collaboration.
About ReThinking Africa Foundation
ReThinking Africa Foundation is a business initiative dedicated to facilitating investment projects in Africa that support job creation and economic development. Based in Berlin, the leadership includes distinguished German and international business leaders alongside stakeholders from politics, academia, and media. Voice4Africa serves as the tourism arm of the ReThinking Africa initiative.
While political debates have dominated much of the past decade, business cooperation between Africa and Germany has seen only modest increases in investment and employment. To strengthen collaboration and strategic dialogue, the ReThinking Africa Foundation regularly convenes German and African stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities, economic projects, and initiatives shaping the continent’s future.
